Barnsley end their three game winless run on home soil as they battle their way through Neil Warnock’s Middlesbrough in a scrappy affair with Mowatt and Dike supplying the goods.
The Tykes looked to try and assert authority in the game early on as Alex Mowatt and Callum Brittain combined on the wing, eventually playing in Dom Freiser whose snapshot went wide of the mark. Positive start.

Toby Sibbick left Barnsley fans hearts in their mouths as he looked to cushion his header back to Brad Collins after a poor clearance which was too short for the Goalkeeper, luckily as Saville raced in, his attempt on goal caused no concern to Barnsley’s number 40 who caught the ball with ease.

A threatening corner was well dealt with by Collins which led to a pacy counter attack for the Red. However, Freiser’s ball was just too far for the the Skipper who was racing in behind. Barnsley were starting to knock on the door.
‘Hoofball’; Barnsley’s newly labelled tactic could perfectly some up the first half hour of the game as both sides had no conviction to keep the ball and play football.
The home side couldn’t edge any clear cut chances against the defiant Boro as another ball was blazed over the bar by Mowatt which seemed to be a recurring theme in the first half for the Tykes.

The last half chance fell to Helik as Woodrow returned the ball to his feet and his effort stung the hands of the Middlesbrough goalkeeper.
Half time Barnsley 0-0 Middlesbrough. A frustrating and lifeless game saw the teams rightfully enter the changing rooms all square.
A huge let off for Barnsley early on in the second half, a devilish ball in from McNair almost connected with Seville’s head. Any contact would have seen the ball ripple the net.
Middlesbrough ramped up the pressure, Watmore danced through the Barnsley defence and his shot/cross went agonisingly wide as Brittain swept up the ball with no nonsense.
Break through! A trademark Mowatt corner teased its way passed Bettineli who will be disappointed to not have kept it out.

Another great ball in behind saw Dike take a big blow, the big man desperately needs more protection from the referees.
DIKEEEE!! A great chance for Morris whose flicked header was saved well and led to the ball being cleared only as far as Callum Brittain, who curled in a wicked ball. Dike does the rest and nods the ball into an empty net. The young American has proved to be a great asset netting five goals in his last five games.
